Job Description

 

As the Manager of Continuous Improvement - Plant Support, you will direct, coach, develop, train, and motivate a team of Industrial Engineering staff to provide CI support to a network of approximately 10-15 manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and abroad.  This highly visible role will challenge you to juggle a large number of continuous improvement projects while rewarding you with the opportunity to drive improvements in Safety, Quality, Customer Service, and Cost across our manufacturing facilities.

 

Scope of Responsbility:

  • Directly manage approximately 10 employees
  • Manage an expense budget of $800,000 - $1,000,000

Provide IE resources for 10 - 15 Manufacturing Facilities in the US and Globally.  (Top Line Sales = $2 - $4 billion; Theoretical Savings Opportunity = $100 - $150 million)

 

Primary Duties:

  • Manage the human and financial resources of a group of approximately 10 engineering and project leadership professionals to assure that general financial analyses and fundamental principles of continuous improvement are understood, developed, and successfully applied across the Hershey Company in a manner which support operating objectives.
  • Prioritize the use of internal and external resources in support of the Company's capital budget, Marketing and Customer Brand Planning, International Growth, and overall Supply Chain Strategy
  • With minimal direction, plan, organize and establish group objectives while leading teams of professionals working among various technical disciplines. Direct, coach, develop, train, and motivate employees to be leaders within the business.  As a part of employee development, a Career Development Action Plan (CDAP) must be created for each direct report.
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert on various CI Tools you will implement, train, and execute as required.  Manage and coordinate the appropriate application of Continuous Improvement practices to promote the constant identification and prioritization of opportunities, and the realization of these opportunities as effectively as possible. Ensure Global consistency across manufacturing facilities in the application of the CI Structure and the use of Hershey's CI Model.
  • Solve complex operational problems or create new solutions in support of Hershey's business objectives through interaction with management, peers and cross-functional resources.
  • Act as CI Relationship Manager to the VP of North American Manufacturing.  (A CI Relationship Mgr. provides guidance, coaching, and leadership to help various functional areas within the Company implement Hershey's CI System.
  • Complete administrative tasks including but not limited to compiling financial results, preparing reports, managing budgets and taking on other duties as assigned.

Education:

 

Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering is required.  MS preferred. 

 

Experience:

 

BS + 16 yrs of related experience or MS w/ 14 yrs of related experience

 

Desired Experience: 

3+ years in a responsible managerial position, with direct reports, with emphasis on implementing Continuous Improvement principles in a manufacturing environment are highly desired.  Or equivalency as determined by Senior Engineering Management

  

Other Desired Qualifications:

  • Extensive academic knowledge and diverse professional experience in manufacturing environments, financial analyses, and Continuous Improvement practices required. 
  •  Ability to provide strong project leadership on widely varied assignments.Ability to manage and advise multi-functional teams
  • Ability to set clear objectives and plans for career development while following up on progress
  • Ability to set appropriate priorities for subordinates and develop business leaders
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills
