Job Description

The Center for the Application of Substance Abuse Technologies (CASAT) at the University of Nevada, Reno is searching for an Associate Coordinator for a training and technical assistance substance abuse prevention team and a training and technical assistance Grants to Reduce Alcohol Abuse Coordinator ("GRAA Coordinator") for a substance abuse prevention center working with schools and school districts. The latter position is a .70 full-time equivalency. CASAT provides training, technical assistance, evaluation, research, and other services to support prevention, treatment and recovery in the alcohol and other drugs field.

 

The Associate Coordinator will be responsible for working with state, tribal and pacific jurisdiction prevention staff within a 17-state/jurisdiction region in order to provide direct training and technical assistance services in evidence-based prevention strategies. The Associate Coordinator's responsibilities will include assisting prevention staff with the development of work plans to address their prevention planning and implementation needs. The work plans will include needs assessment information and concrete steps to address those needs, taking sustainability and the culturally-diverse nature of the region into account.

 

The GRAA Coordinator will be responsible for working with school districts within a 17-state/jurisdiction region that are recipients of federal grants targeting alcohol prevention to implement substance abuse prevention programs in their schools. The GRAA Coordinator's responsibilities include assisting these grantees to develop work plans to address their grant-related prevention planning and implementation needs. The work plans will include needs assessment information and concrete steps to address those needs, taking sustainability and the culturally-diverse nature of the region into account.

 

Both positions will assist in planning and implementing substance abuse prevention events and conferences so public speaking and presentation skills are important.  These positions require frequent travel which may involve short notice. Experience working with state systems and with federal funding is beneficial for the Associate Coordinator and experience working with federal funding and in school or school district settings is beneficial for the GRAA Coordinator.

 

Minimum requirements for the positions include:  Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two years or a Master's Degree and one year of experience.  This experience should include working with substance abuse prevention or conducting training in substance abuse prevention.

 

Preference will be given to those applicants with:

 

*  Due to contractual requirements, applicants that have resided in the western region of the United States (defined in the contract as Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona,  all states west of these states, and the six pacific jurisdictions) for a minimum of the past 12 months

 

* Applicants who are Certified Prevention Specialists/Professionals (CPS/CPP) or willing to earn this certification
