Essential Job Functions


The Principal Investigator (PI)serves as the technical programmatic lead of a dynamic, matrixed team engaged in the advanced development and FDA licensure of a recombinant protein vaccine against a bacterial toxin.

The PI serves as thought leader and subject matter expert for all phases of complex product development and - in conjunction with technical and business team members - integrates both technical and programmatic approaches to advanced (bio)pharmaceutical development.

The candidate will demonstrate a strong history of scientific accomplishment including basic and/or applied research output. Excellent oral and written communications skills are required since the PI serves as a primary point of communication between the product team and the client, as well as with DVC management.

The candidate will demonstrate past experience in integrating technical and project management disciplines to manage performance and risk, and demonstrate a thorough understanding of the integration and interdependence between cost, schedule and product development milestones in advanced development.

Qualification
Basic Qualifications

• Doctorate with training in a relevant biological/biomedical discipline;
• Advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience in manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals is required.
• Minimum of ten years total experience in advanced development of pharmaceutical and/or biopharmaceutical products is required.
• A minimum of three years serving as scientific project team leader.
• Demonstrated experience in leading multidisciplinary teams. Strong interpersonal skills are essential.
• Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications.
• Strong project management skills. Working knowledge of MS Project and similar software tools is desirable.
• Project management certification (PMP) and training in techniques such as Earned Value Management and government acquisitions are highly desirable.
