Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW:Under minimal supervision, perform basic to complex installations, disconnects and service changes for residential and business customers for cable, internet, telephone and home networking services. Perform basic to complex troubleshooting and repairs from customer's electronic devices (TV, Modem, etc.) to the amplifier. In addition, provide technical guidance to BBT I BBT Senior positions.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:Perform installations, disconnects, reconnects, service changes, relocates and other tasks as defined, troubleshoot and repair customer cable, internet, telephone and home networking services from the first active to the connection of the customers equipment for single, multi-family and/or commercial dwellings including, but not limited to, as appropriate, all necessary wiring both interior and exterior and hardware.Troubleshoot and repair drops from tap to service location; troubleshoot advanced to complex distribution and return-path problems; splice cable; Install and configure network interface cards and client software on customer computer equipment; Identifying problems with customer system configurations and settings that interfere with use of the service.Perform all work as necessary to conform to quality control guidelines (includes compliance with requirements outlined in applicable regulations such as: OSHA, FCC, and NEC, etc and following procedures as outlined in the CPNIQ, TQA, other Installation, Technical, Operations, and Safety Manuals, and Employee Handbook).Promote company products and services and educate customer on proper use of services and equipment, including channel lineups, how to add additional services and access help online.Perform all diagnostic, quality control, auditing, leakage detection and record-keeping expected of a Broadband Tech Sr.Perform BBT TQA and related inspections.Handle and address customer escalations.Assist with outages, I-Net issues and Headend related issues.Assist with trouble call analysis.Collect payments and secure appropriate customer signatures; relay customer feedback.Utilize and be proficient with tools and information that will enhance business results (DRUM, EQA, etc.).Assist in providing training to all levels of the Broadband Technician.For applicable systems: Perform repair and maintenance on voice systems, including uninstalling and removing existing CPE; Installing, uninstalling, and reconnecting NIU devices and backup powering; Initiating DHCP script.Operate Company vehicle in a safe and responsible manner.Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:1 year Broadband Technician Sr. or equivalent work experienceEDUCATION, CERTIFICATION & LICENSES:High School Diploma or equivalent or equivalent work experienceBBT Sr. certification or equivalent work experienceValid driver's license with satisfactory driving record within Company required standardsWORKING CONDITIONS:Work indoors in confined space, poorly ventilated areas such as attics during extreme heatExposure to dust, dirt, noise, insects, cleaning solutionsWork outdoors in all kinds of weather and at all times of the day or nightWork performed near power lines and electricityWork and travel in inclement weatherPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Ability to safely use weight-bearing equipment (such as gaffs, safety harness and ladders) within the maximum weight limitations of that equipmentAbility to accurately measure distances, using tapes or other measuring devicesAbility to carry, climb and operate extension ladder, (approx. 28 ft high and 90 pounds)Ability to climb poles using gaffs, hooks and climbing belt as neededAbility to differentiate between different sizes and colors of wiresAbility to make cable connections in tight spaces by bending, reaching, twistingAbility to operate a bucket truck and test equipment, required to perform job dutiesAbility to operate appropriate computer or test equipment associated with positionAbility to perform job from high places (i.e. poles and roofs)Ability to use the following hand tools: electric drills, hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers in the installation of cable to the residence and TV set convertersAbility to walk over all types of terrain in all kinds of weather while carrying tools and equipment, including gaffs, ladders, and fully loaded tool beltsAbility to work while standing 50 - 70% of the timeAbility to work with small components and wires to make cable connections
