Applicants are considered for all positions without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, veteran status, disability, sexual orientation, or any other characteristics protected by law.Position SummaryThe National Accounts Senior Underwriter II is responsible for the profitability of an assigned book of business consisting of a minimum of $500 million in Medical premium/premium equivalent and 150,000 Medical members. Additional responsibilities include: providing assistance in the training of junior associates, providing support for financial management reports, and participation in the development of new products and rating methodologies. The Senior UW II will participate in the multi-disciplined Health Informatics for Accounts (HIA) report development and the consultative analysis presentation to our customers.Key Accountabilities
- Maintain account profitability, enrollment levels and support Sales' customer relationship building efforts by participating at client meetings.
- Responsible for the accurate and timely calculation of credible renewal rates.
- Enforce adherence to Underwriting Guidelines and Policies and Procedures and be responsible for approval of exceptions.
- Provide rationale for increases in costs including trend factors and underlying influence of account specific utilization patterns using HIA report data analysis.
- Develop creative pricing strategies to achieve profitability and marketshare targets.
- Participate in the development of new products and rating methodologies.
- Negotiate prices with customers and their consultants/brokers, where appropriate, to retain / grow enrollment and meet profitability goals.
- Analyze and effectively present comparative value advantages of submitted bid.
- Directly accountable for the profitability and persistency of the book of business.
- Participate in the development of Health Informatics reports, contribute to multi-disciplined analysis and present on a consultative basis actionable recommendations.
- Participate actively in account renewal and new business presentations to existing and prospective policyholders and brokers/consultants.
- Provide technical training to Underwriters, as well as Sales staff.
- Undergraduate degree is required; Masters degree is preferred. HIAA or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation preferred.
- Proven experience in National Account underwriting. Must have extensive experience in underwriting National Accounts with over 5,000 lives.
- Minimum of seven years' underwriting or consulting experience is required.
- Must possess superior oral and written communication skills to explain technical concepts to clients, consultants, and sales staff.
- Extensive knowledge of health benefit programs and financial arrangements from both a risk and cash flow aspect.
- Must have extensive experience with presentations to clients and negotiating prices with customers and consultants.
- Must be able to deal effectively with senior management, sales personnel and customers / brokers / consultants.
- Solid PC skills required.
