The Electrical Connector Design Release Engineer is responsible for designing electrical connection systems for automotive applications.  It is an engineering position within the Electrical Product Development Team. This opportunity will require the employee to interface with colleagues around the world, as well as lead a team of supplier resident engineers. This position entails working closely with other product development engineering groups which require electrical connections such as interiors and chassis, as well as interfacing with purchasing and manufacturing.

 

  • Design and release of connectors
  • Design and update connector 3D/2D connector math files
  • Implementation of the connections into production
  • Quality improvement and cost reduction of connection systems
  • Quality issue resolution
  • Connector validation testing and approval
  • Manage prototype part availability at all prototype build events
  • Define future connector and terminal specifications to be used in all regions
  • Management and coordination of Resident Supplier Engineers
  • Generates technical solutions for current, new and major programs
  • Provides technical leadership for advanced technology development
  • Performs complex design analysis
  • Develops engineering designs (including subsystems)
  • Implements engineering changes
  • Specifies and balances system requirements
  • Plans and implements test and/or development programs
  • Releases parts and subsystems for production
  • Communicates, coordinates, and consults with engineering departments and customers
  • Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products

 Basic Required
  • BSEE or BSME or equivalent training
  • Knowledge of metals with respect to electrical and formability characteristics
  • Knowledge of polymers and their dielectric and environmental performances
  • 3-5 years electrical component or wire harness design/release experience
  • Capable of leading supplier engineers
  • Knowledge of validation processes
  • Familiar with USCAR specifications
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • High level of analytical ability
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with others
 
 
 
Basic Preferred
 
  • Masters of Science in Engineering Degree
  • Thorough knowledge of/experience with automotive connection systems
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area
  • Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
  • Specific knowledge of engineering discipline (e.g. mechanics, physics, metallurgy, manufacturing methods, electronics, software, control systems) within job-related area
