My Other Passion!
Ever since I can remember Mexican Folklorico has always been my second passion. Just remebering myself at three years-old and watching my cousin dancing on stage with his charro suit on and the sounds of the guitar and trumpets playing "La Negra", even then, sent a shiver up my spine. I new as a young child that I would be a Folklorico dancer and dreamed of preforming on stage, wearing a brightly colored dress and dancing to the music that generations before me have done.
When I moved from Houston to a small town in Colorado, I never dreamed that I would be teaching a folklorico group in the mountains. For me it has been the greatest pleasure to be able to pass down my knowledge and love for the music and dance of Mexican Folklorico. For four years now I have been a volunteer dance instructor for the DeAlma organizations. This organization gives this small Hispanic community a new sense of pride. A new start for most of the kids and a place to feel close to their culture, language, and people.
