Description
This is paraprofessional work of a varied and highly responsible nature. An employee in a position allocated to this class is responsible for a variety of complex and difficult professional accounting and bookkeeping techniques. Duties require an extensive working knowledge of the organization and programs under the administrator. Technical knowledge and experience in such areas as accounts payable, accounts receivables, cash control, and generally accepted accounting principles are required. Work varies widely in both subject matter and complexity and requires the exercising of considerable initiative and independent judgment.
Examples of Duties

- Responsible for assistance with the timely completion of all college financial reports.
- Responsible for maintaining controls to ensure the college stays within its operating budget and the proper internal control of cash.
- Serve as assistant to a college administrator by planning, initiating, and carrying to completion, accounting, bookkeeping, clerical, and administrative activities.
- Assists with the preparation of annual financial statements by researching and compiling all outstanding account receivables.
- Assists with annual Fiscal Year End audit with independent auditors.
- Assists with financial and operational reporting as needed, including the development of new reports.
- Perform reconciliation of various accounts and bank statements, including student accounts.
- Prepares journal entries for computer input and post ledgers.
- Assists with the administration of accounts receivables function for sponsorships including billing, receipting, follow up invoicing, emails, phone calls, etc.
- Assists with the administration of collections for standard past-due accounts and the identification of delinquent accounts by reviewing reports.
- Prepares, posts, verifies, and records student and vendor payments and transactions related to accounts receivable.
- Navigates multiple third-party, online billing and payment portals including the US Veteran’s
- Administration and various state college savings programs ensuring these sponsorships are processed
and billed according to program specifications to avoid any delay in the timely settlement of
outstanding receivables. - Accesses, inputs, and retrieves information and data from a computer. Prepares special reports as required and maintains files and records.

Minimum Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of integrated databases, computer data entry operations and accounting functions. Knowledge of office software such as MS Office and electronic mail. Knowledge of accounting rules and regulations for community colleges. Knowledge of applicable federal regulations. Ability to analyze and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals and to effectively communicate verbally. Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment. Ability to operate small office equipment and multi-line telephone systems. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and meet deadlines. Ability to be innovative and creative to solve problems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school graduate plus four years accounting or bookkeeping experience. A high school equivalency diploma from the State Department of Education may be substituted for high school graduation. A Bachelor’s degree in a business related area, finance, or accounting preferred. Computer literate.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:

Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
Use of fingers.
