Position Summary

The Website Content Director oversees, drives, and collaborates on the development, execution, and optimization of the Human Rights Campaign's digital brand experience and web strategy, including website management, digital content creation, user journey optimization, targeted paid advertising, SEO, and brand storytelling. The Director will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless and impactful user experiences across touch points, driving traffic, engagements, and brand consistency. This role reports to the Vice President of Brand and is within the Campaigns & Communications department, and it will work cross-departmentally with the Equality Programs, Development & Membership, and Federal & State Affairs teams.

This position is based at the HRC headquarters located in Washington, DC, and is a hybrid/in-person position.

Position Responsibilities

Optimization and Strategy

  • Lead the strategy, design, and ongoing optimization of HRC’s websites and microsites, ensuring a user-centric, high-performance experience across desktop and mobile platforms
  • Collaborate with other members of the IT and website team, and vendors to ensure seamless functionality, speed, and security
  • Ensure content is optimized for search engines, user engagement, member communication, and social media platforms
  • Work with internal stakeholders and external partners to maintain a consistent and compelling brand voice across all content
  • Use data and analytics to continually optimize the website for improved user engagement, conversion rates, and SEO performance

Innovation and Development

  • Collaborate and ensure with teams including Design, Video, Digital, Communications, and Online Strategy that all HRC products reflect the brand’s mission, vision, and values, including but not limited to digital content, website, social media, SMS, paid media, and messaging
  • Oversee the creation of engaging, relevant, and high-quality digital content, including blog posts, campaign landing pages, resources, light boxes, and more
  • Integrate brand storytelling within user journeys and optimize messaging for different stages of the funnel
  • Lead, collaborate, and optimize paid advertising strategies across various platforms to drive search engine optimization, traffic, conversions, and brand visibility
  • Stay up to date on emerging trends, tools, and best practices in digital brand experience, website, and paid media

Project Management and Operations

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team and foster a collaborative and effective environment
  • Manage vendor relationships and external partners, including website agencies and paid advertising agencies
  • Oversee budget management for the website and SEO and support targeted paid advertising, performance tracking, and reporting, ensuring campaigns meet KPIs and ROI targets, ensuring efficient use of resources to maximize results
  • Regularly track, analyze, and report on digital performance metrics, including website traffic, user engagement, conversion rates, paid campaign effectiveness, and content performance

Position Qualifications:

  • At least 8 years of experience in digital content, marketing, and strategy development and expertise
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including proficiency in analytics reporting and strategic planning documentation
  • Familiarity with digital tools and channels and a passion for using these tools to drive action and engagement required '
  • Proactive individual with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience managing campaigns and initiatives that incorporate social media, video, design, and other digital content as needed
  • Demonstrable success in organizing and managing projects that are multi-faceted and mission-driven
  • Personal interest in and alignment with HRC’s values, and with the broader fight for LGBTQ+ equality and the liberation of those who are multiply marginalized.
  • Flexibility with work schedule
  • Some travel (around 10%) will be required

All positions at the Human Rights Campaign and/or the Human Rights Campaign Foundation may require travel on a regular basis or periodically. Where the need arises for business travel, appropriate compensation as outlined by the Fair Labor Standards Act will apply.
