Job Description


Based on our internal equity review process, the starting hourly wage for this position will be $29.57
The full-salary range for this position is $29.57- $36.70 per hour.

Current opportunities are available for the following areas:

  • Solid Waste Program:  During Peak season operate of a large refuse truck (not CDL required) to service dozens of trash receptacles throughout the system. A typical work shift starts between 3 a.m. to 5 a.m. depending on the season and will include weekends in the summer.  During the shoulder and non-peak season this employee will be responsible to perform the other Maintenance Worker job duties and will have the opportunity to work in a team environment on special maintenance projects.

  • Ball fields:   Parks Tacoma’s ball fields are some of the community’s most active and well-loved outdoor spaces. Help to uphold the quality and safety of these highly used facilities.  From keeping the turf healthy and well-groomed, to ensuring the grounds and equipment stay in top shape, the work directly supports thousands of players and visitors each season. It’s a hands-on, rewarding environment where attention to detail and a passion for outdoor spaces truly make a difference.

Position Information
Under the direction of the assigned maintenance lead, or supervisor, perform a variety of grounds maintenance and park facility maintenance duties with minimum direction. This position may also provide work direction to laborer/custodial staff, seasonal staff and volunteers. Maintenance workers have a demonstrated level of park landscape and grounds maintenance principles, practices and operations.


In the performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to:
  • Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
  • Interact professionally with other employees, customers and suppliers.
  • Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
  • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
  • Observe applicable safety requirements, use safety equipment provided, implement appropriate safety practices at all times and report immediately any unsafe working conditions or hazards.
