This position is hybrid and remote eligible up to 40% of the time. The office location for this position is at ESL Corporate Headquarters in Rochester, NY. Hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Must be able to meet current and future needs
Pay:
Starting pay - $114,000 Range - $100,921 - $127,228.61 plus additional incentives
Purpose of Position:
The Manager, Mortgage Originations provides strategic direction and hands-on leadership to a high-performing team of mortgage originators. This role is responsible for driving loan growth, elevating customer experience, and building a culture of excellence. With a focus on team development and strategic planning, this position plays a key role in ESL’s initiative to become the number one provider of residential mortgage financing in the market. An ideal candidate demonstrates collaborative leadership, strong business acumen, and the adaptability needed to thrive in a competitive lending environment
Principle Accountabilities:
Lead, Coach, and Develop the Sales Team
- Lead the Mortgage Origination team comprised of Business Development Mortgage Originators (BDMOs) and Mortgage Originators (MOs) to achieve and exceed sales goals
- Recruit, train, mentor, and develop team members to foster a high-performance culture
- Monitor team performance to ensure alignment with ESL’s core values and member satisfaction objectives
- Collaborate with secondary marketing, product, and marketing teams to optimize sales efforts and maintain market relevance
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure mortgage applications are accurate, complete, and compliant with internal procedures and regulatory requirements
- Maintain team proficiency in product knowledge, underwriting standards, and compliance regulations
- Promote excellence in creditworthiness analysis and product recommendations
Operational Strategy
- Participate in Mortgage Lending organizational planning including sales goals, budgets, staffing, and project initiatives
- Develop strategies to generate new mortgage business and expand market share
- Collaborate with internal teams (secondary, product, and marketing) to optimize sales and ensure relevance within the Mortgage footprint
Continuously Develop Skills and Advance Expertise
- Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory updates, and best practices in mortgage lending
- Engage in leadership development, networking, and community activities
- Support departmental and organizational goals through additional duties as needed
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in mortgage lending, business, finance, or related
industry - 7+ years experience managing an external sales team in financial industry such as business banking,
mortgage, commercial lending, or closely related industry - Demonstrated success in building, coaching, and leading high-performing sales teams
- Demonstrated experience managing budgets
- Demonstrated analytical skills to interpret performance metrics and market data, informing the
development and execution of long-term sales strategies aligned with organizational goals - Must complete submission of application to the NMLS within the first week of employment and be
successfully registered as a Mortgage Loan Originator through ESL
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1+ years mortgage experience in originations, processing, or underwriting
- Comfort leading teams through change, such as market shifts, regulatory updates, and business
transformation - Experience working closely with executive leadership, marketing, product, and/or compliance
teams to drive business outcomes - Active participation in industry associations and networking to enhance brand visibility and
business development, with an established network of relevant realtor relationships
