





Project Manager—Generation—Georgia
JOB SUMMARY
This position reports directly to the O&M Manager (Plant Scherer) and is responsible for oversight and direction of the outage organization at assigned facilities. This position will manage all aspects of the outage preparation and execution. This role will establish and follow a standard practice and establish standards of operation across all Georgia Power Generation facilities. The role will also be responsible for providing continuity on how outage scopes are defined and established. Another important aspect of this position will be assisting the site teams to identify and prioritize work planning, scheduling, execution, cost, risk, and closeout.
The successful candidate must maintain a good working relationship with the different site teams and know how to engage with multiple project stakeholders. A strong working knowledge of engineering, procurement, and construction, specifically for plant outage, is a requirement for this role.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure that safety and quality are always maintained during the planning, execution, and close out phases of the outage.
- Provide the structure and governance oversight to ensure that all aspects of outage are planned and executed in accordance with the Southern Company Playbook standards.
- Ensure that all the pre–outage milestones are adhered to and completed on time.
- Develop an outage organization at each site that ensures the knowledge and experience needed is in place early to ensure success.
- Provide regular updates/communication status during both the planning and execution phases of the outage.
- Provide proactive communication when problems arise that will impact costs, schedule, or the external public.
- Monitor and analyze the outage budget to ensure that the funding is available, and forecast is accurate.
- Assist in identifying needed tasks, milestones, and resource requirements for assigned projects.
- Balance budgets, schedules, environmental requirements, regulatory requirements, and community impact if applicable
- Ensure consistent schedules are built utilizing established principles around level of detail, sequencing, resources, and structure.
- Establish and maintain a schedule driven mindset around outage management leadership. Ensure everyone involved utilizes the schedule daily to drive accountability and efficiency.
- Establish controls around Safety, Quality, Schedule, Cost, and Scope.
- Ensure that outage issues and decisions are effectively communicated.
- Monitor and analyze progress on each project and communicate as needed with internal and external stakeholders.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)
Education & Job Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science related courses, advanced degree preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in project management required.
- Proficient with project management principles and techniques. Professional accreditations and certifications a plus.
- 3-5 years of experience in outages in a Fossil Fuel or Gas Generation facility
- Demonstrated experience with engineering principles, electric operating practices, construction practices, regulatory, budgeting, scheduling, contracts, and general business practices.
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate progress, identify problem areas, evaluate alternatives, and determine viable solutions.
