





SCM Transaction Supervisor - Contracts
GRADE LEVEL: Exempt 7
JOB SUMMARY
This position will lead a team of Contract Agents responsible for working with Enterprise Services customers to develop contracts for their designated business units. Specifically, this position will supervise Contract Agents responsible for supporting our Technology Organization business partners with their sourcing, contracting and procurement needs. This position will supervise direct reports to ensure the day-to-day process of contract development requests are tracked, managed, and completed in a timely manner, including Request for Information (RFI), Request for Proposals (RFP), review of offers upon receipt from bidders, cost & price analysis, negotiations in accordance with company policies and procedures, risk assessment, and issuance of purchase orders. This position will be responsible for reviewing direct report's work to ensure that all SCM Policies and Procedures and the Southern Company Contracts Manual are followed, ensuring that all contracts and authorizations are properly executed, and assisting in identifying and resolving any problems in a timely manner.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Bachelor's degree in business, management, and law (or related field) highly preferred
- Advanced degree is a plus
- Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM); Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM); Certified Professional Contract Manager (CPCM); or Certified Commercial Contract Manager (CCCM) is a plus
Experience
- Previous supervisory skills over staff, major projects or initiatives desired
- Minimum of five years, experience with sourcing and contract development
- Experience with drafting and negotiating complex, non-standard terms, including from vendor paper
- Experience with technology related contracts is a plus
- Experience with communicating and interacting at all levels of the organization
Knowledge and Skills
- In depth knowledge of Supply Chain Policies and Procedures, as well as comprehensive knowledge of the Southern Company Contracts Manual
- Comprehensive knowledge and ability to train others on the principles for strategic sourcing and contract development
- Comprehensive knowledge of SCM Technology, i.e. Maximo, GEP, etc.
- Proven analytical skills to evaluate metrics, perform trend analysis, market research, and pricing strategies
- Must be able to demonstrate general principles for bidding techniques, cost and price analysis, as well as contract negotiations
- Must be able to demonstrate effective communication (both verbal and written) skills with the ability to interface with business partners, suppliers, and executives, at all levels
- Excellent problem-solving skills required
- Excellent organizational skills are required to plan and manage assigned workload and customer expectations effectively
- Must demonstrate strong internal customer focus and commitment to customer value
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with short "turn around" times and handle multiple activities, contracts and customers simultaneously
- Must be able to handle tight deadlines, large workloads, and multiple projects with positive enthusiasm
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Job Responsibilities will include but not be limited to performance management, workforce planning, strategic sourcing initiatives, workload assignment, and directing the daily activities of Contract Agents. Other responsibilities include:
- Manage the activities of direct reports in support of their assigned business partners
- Ensure risk mitigation for all companies
- Prepare, deliver, and present various information related to project support or staff to all levels of Management.
- Ensure the integrity of the Sourcing Process through strict adherence to the Southern Company Contracts Manual and Supply Chain Policies and Procedures
- Build and maintain relationships with internal business partners, suppliers, peers in Supply Chain Management, and other key stakeholders
- Identify process optimization opportunities and build strong business practices
- Plan and manage assigned workload and business partner expectations effectively
- Clearly define and performance manage staff related to job expectations and behaviors, ensuring alignment with Our Values
- Ensure contract strategy supports category management efforts and other value proposition initiatives
