The Mitsubishi Electric Innovation Center (MELIC) is a forward-looking innovation hub based in Cambridge, MA. MELIC leads next-generation venture building, startup engagement, and digital transformation for Mitsubishi Electric's North American operations. We partner with academic institutions, startups, and internal business units to develop scalable AI solutions for the future of work.
Position Overview:
We are looking for a highly motivated intern to support MELIC's efforts in AI-driven digital transformation. This internship will focus on identifying, designing, and prototyping AI-based solutions to streamline corporate office workflows across business units-such as operations, HR, legal, procurement, and engineering documentation. The ideal candidate combines technical capability with a deep curiosity for how enterprise processes can be reimagined.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze current business unit workflows and identify high-impact opportunities for automation using AI tools (e.g., LLMs, agents, RPA).
- Research and benchmark commercially available AI solutions for process automation, document handling, and decision support.
- Assist in designing and testing AI-based prototypes for real-world use cases (e.g., document summarization, contract review, data extraction, process agents).
- Collaborate with MELIC engineers, product managers, and business unit stakeholders to validate pain points and iterate on potential solutions.
- Prepare internal documentation, workflow diagrams, and demos to communicate project status and outcomes.
- Contribute to strategic roadmapping for AI-based internal products.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Familiarity with Python, APIs, and common AI/ML libraries (e.g., LangChain, OpenAI, Hugging Face, spaCy).
- Understanding of LLM-based agentic workflows or interest in enterprise automation.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Passion for transforming real-world business challenges using emerging technology.
Program Details:
- Duration: 10-12 weeks (Summer or Semester-based)
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be $7,000/month to $8,000/month; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including commissions based on achieving individual performance and/or sales metrics, incentive compensation and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these additional compensation and benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
