Full Job Description

About MELIC:
The Mitsubishi Electric Innovation Center (MELIC) is a forward-looking innovation hub based in Cambridge, MA. MELIC leads next-generation venture building, startup engagement, and digital transformation for Mitsubishi Electric's North American operations. We partner with academic institutions, startups, and internal business units to develop scalable AI solutions for the future of work.

Position Overview:
We are looking for a highly motivated intern to support MELIC's efforts in AI-driven digital transformation. This internship will focus on identifying, designing, and prototyping AI-based solutions to streamline corporate office workflows across business units-such as operations, HR, legal, procurement, and engineering documentation. The ideal candidate combines technical capability with a deep curiosity for how enterprise processes can be reimagined.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze current business unit workflows and identify high-impact opportunities for automation using AI tools (e.g., LLMs, agents, RPA).
  • Research and benchmark commercially available AI solutions for process automation, document handling, and decision support.
  • Assist in designing and testing AI-based prototypes for real-world use cases (e.g., document summarization, contract review, data extraction, process agents).
  • Collaborate with MELIC engineers, product managers, and business unit stakeholders to validate pain points and iterate on potential solutions.
  • Prepare internal documentation, workflow diagrams, and demos to communicate project status and outcomes.
  • Contribute to strategic roadmapping for AI-based internal products.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with Python, APIs, and common AI/ML libraries (e.g., LangChain, OpenAI, Hugging Face, spaCy).
  • Understanding of LLM-based agentic workflows or interest in enterprise automation.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Passion for transforming real-world business challenges using emerging technology.

Program Details:

  • Duration: 10-12 weeks (Summer or Semester-based)
