Department Summary

Bridgewater State University's health programs are housed in the Department of Health and Kinesiology. In addition to the health programs, the department is home to physical education, exercise physiology, and health science majors. The department prepares public and community health professionals, coaches, fitness and recreation leaders, and school teachers in physical education and adapted physical education to provide qualified leadership in their respective fields and enhance the quality of life of residents of the region and the Commonwealth.

The Department of Health and Kinesiology offers a range of undergraduate and graduate programs, including majors in Public Health, Health Studies, Health Science (with concentrations in pre-Occupational Therapy, pre-Physical Therapy, and pre-Athletic Training), Physical Education (with five concentration options), and Exercise Physiology. Additionally, we offer a minor in Nutrition and graduate programs such as an MS in Physical Education and a graduate certificate in Professional Tennis Management.

Essential Duties

The Department of Health and Kinesiology seeks candidates for a one-year full-time, benefited, temporary Instructor/Assistant Professor position in Biomechanics. Successful candidates will be staff members who can work with their colleagues to help meet the mission of the department in serving and supporting our diverse campus community.

1. Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of students from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of abilities.

2. Teach Biomechanics courses (lecture and lab) and various discipline-specific courses to students in physical education, exercise physiology, and the health science major.

3. Provide holistic student advising for Health Science and Physical Education students.

4. Develop and maintain a student-centered classroom environment conducive to effective learning for all students.

5. Participate in service to the department and the University.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in Exercise Science, Physical Education, Applied Kinesiology, Biomechanics, or a closely related field from an accredited institution, and coursework in Biomechanics.

Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching with a student-centered, inclusive, and active learning approach that has the potential to engage diverse learners in both in-person and online environments.

Experience or potential for effective academic advising and mentoring of undergraduate students.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous teaching experience in biomechanics, including lecture-based instruction or laboratory-based activities, at the college or university level.

Experience utilizing biomechanics instrumentation and digital technology for the analysis of human movement (e.g., force plates, motion capture systems, EMG, and video analysis software/apps)

Experience using teaching learning management platform to support student learning (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas, and Moodle)

Previous teaching experience supporting first-generation college students in kinesiology or in a health field, particularly in ways that foster academic engagement, confidence, and persistence.
