Director of Legal Services
State of Connecticut Judicial Branch
  Hartford

The State of Connecticut Judicial Branch is seeking a Director of Legal Services. The successful candidate will be responsible for directing the staff and operations of the Legal Services Unit, which is responsible for providing expert advice and professional services in the areas of law, policy, bar admission, attorney discipline, judicial administration, and forms review for the Judicial Branch.

Examples of Duties: Directs the staff and operations of the Legal Services Unit; coordinates, plans, and manages unit activities, including attorney discipline, bar admission and forms review ; formulates program goals and objectives; develops related policies; interprets and administers pertinent laws, statutes, and regulations; conducts performance evaluations, develops and implements staff training programs; prepares the unit budget; maintains contacts with individuals both within and outside of the Branch who might impact on program activities; reviews legislation and proposes revisions; serves as counsel to the Rules Committee of the Superior Court in the development of proposed changes to court procedures, codes of ethics for attorneys and judges, the attorney discipline process, and the bar admission process; provides advice on legal and policy matters to the Chief Court Administrator, the Executive Director and other Branch officials; manages the representation of the Branch in matters before the Claims Commission; represents the Branch on various committees; performs related duties as required.

Incumbents may be required to travel in the course of their daily work. 

Salary Range: $147,823 - $191,338/year – plus State of Connecticut benefits.

New employees begin at the minimum. The starting salary for existing state employees may be higher than the minimum, in accordance with existing Judicial Branch policy.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

General Experience: Membership in the Connecticut Bar and six (6) years of experience in the practice of law. 

Special Requirements: Three (3) years of the General Experience must have been in a managerial capacity.
