DISTRIBUTION ENGINEERING ASSOCIATE or ENGINEERING REPRESENTATIVE

Georgia Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company, is currently seeking an Engineer or Engineering Associate. The position listed below can be filled as either an Engineer, Engineering Associate, or Engineering Rep. depending on the skills, education and experience qualifications of the successful candidate.
***Candidate must be willing to travel for various Distribution Asset Management Projects across the State. Travel is 50% of the time
JOB SUMMARY
This position will be required to handling engineering work activities in the Distribution Asset Management organization. The candidate will support AM Project Managers in engineering for the various AM programs. Responsibilities include creating estimates for various construction projects, such as pole replacements, cable replacement and cubicle replacements at a statewide level. Candidate must be able to design and estimate jobs that are thorough and accurate, ensuring proper budget planning. Candidate must provide superior customer service, communicate with customers, as well as internal and external partners) on various level and be able to prepare and schedule construction of jobs in a timely manner to stay on schedule and budget; and be able to provide clear and Candidate must be familiar with distribution specifications and bulletins. The candidate must have a good understanding of the operation of the overhead and underground electrical system and be able to request switching orders for various projects. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for processing all documentation in accordance with Compliance requirements. Candidate will support the PMs by providing budget and project updates. Candidate must be available after business hours for local, out-of-town trouble and storm restoration.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Engineer and Engineering Associate:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (From ABET Accredited School), or
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, or
- Bachelor's Degree in Math or Science
Engineering Representative
- Experience in Utility industry or related field
- 2- 4 year degree from Accredited School a plus
- Previous Distribution Engineering Experience is a plus
- Distribution and or related Engineering experience with a power utility company is a plus
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Proficient with MS office products and other related engineering Software systems highly desired.
- Understanding of Capital and O&M projects and budgeting.
- Thorough understanding of Fulcrum and knowledge of PD Maximo is desired.
- Strong Technical Engineering Skills and understanding of Power Systems required.
- General engineering and or construction principles a plus Knowledge of electrical system operations, distribution systems, underground and overhead construction practices required
- Ability to prioritize and organize work to manage multiple large projects and meet strict deadlines.
- Excellent project management skills that lead to desired results.
- Ability to work with customers and others as a team member.
- Must be able to effectively communicate and build positive relationships with customers, engineers, customer service, sales, corporate partners and line crew personnel.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service both internally and externally
- Must have valid driver’s license.
This position has been identified as a role that will require the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle. The following will be required if you are selected for this position:
- Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience (Must hold a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered a valid driver’s license).
- Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
