Primary Responsibilities:
Develop and manage a comprehensive Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, with the safety and care of the Museum's collections as a primary motivation
Establish a holistic IPM plan for the museum
Coordinate (with the IPM-Working group and Scientific Research) to draft policy documents that outline measures to achieve the following goals and supervise their implementation and response action plans:
Met-wide monitoring, identification, reporting, and treatment processes
Comprehensive documentation of pest activity
Best practices for prevention
Quarantine and treatment systems for objects entering the museum and off-site storage
Pest emergency action plan
Direct a contracted pest management (PM) company at the museum buildings and off-site storage
Play a major role in the coordination and management of the museum's anoxic treatment and freezer facility
Lead general training on IPM best practices for all staff and targeted training for collections care staff
Partner with Custodial Services and The Met's PM contractors to incorporate and implement IPM best practices
Oversees and consults on IPM efforts related to The Met's food service operation
Advise and consults on IPM requirements for all exhibition and infrastructure modifications
Maintain an IPM intranet site
Participate in relevant conferences and collaborates with stakeholder departments, such as the Department of Scientific Research on research projects and the invitation of speakers on overlapping topics of interest
Other related duties and special projects
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work and experience required
3 years of experience in IPM or collections care with a focus on administering an IPM program
Extensive knowledge of collections care and collections management best practices in cultural organizations
Experience with museum cataloguing systems (TMS preferred)
Ability to work collaboratively with staff across the museum at all levels
Knowledge of pest monitoring software
Pest Management certification preferred
Strong interpersonal, communication and project coordination skills
COMPENSATION RANGE:
Pay Range: $120,000.00 - $130,000.00 / Annually
