TRIO Talent Search program adviser provides guidance and support to high school students, primarily those from low income and first generation backgrounds to help them succeed in college and beyond. They assist with college applications, financial aid, and career exploration, as well as offer academic and personal counseling.
- Recruitment of new participants to ensure TRIO Talent Search project meets the required funded number 500 participants each academic year.
- Academic Advising: Helping students choose the right courses and track to achieve their educational goals.
- Career Guidance: Exploring career options and helping students connect their interests with potential careers.
- Financial Aid Navigation: Helping students understand and access financial aid opportunities, such as FAFSA and scholarships.
- Mentoring: Connecting students with mentors who can provide guidance and support
- Advocacy: Advocating for students' needs and interests within the school and college systems.
- Plan and coordinate college field trips, career exploration, and academic enrichment activities
- Plan and coordinate educational enrichment activities, workshops, and special events for students, teachers, parents, and the community
- Informing the community and schools about the program by using public service announcements, flyers, and presentations by traveling to target schools and meeting the students weekly.
- Weekly campus visits to meet with participants individually and/or in groups to provide academic advisement and info. /Assistance related to successful school completion and postsecondary entry/re-entry
- Provide workshops on college application, career opportunities, financial aid availability, financial planning, social emotional learning, and importance of rigorous curriculum coursework
- Manage and monitor assigned caseload of participants' progress toward TRIO Talent Search program objectives and internal goals
- Maintain confidentiality of participant/staff info learned while completing job responsibilities
- Assist participants with the college admissions process
- Assist participants with applying for financial aid and scholarship opportunities
- Coordinate and/or conduct age-appropriate academic support workshops and activities
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date student records and database, including all documentation relevant to participant and project progress.
- Serve as participant's Program Adviser with special emphasis on guiding newly graduated seniors through the college matriculation process.
- Compile and analyze data and prepare/submit accurate and timely reports
- Assist participants with career exploration, goal setting, planning and follow through.
- Implements program objectives as outlined by the Talent Search Director
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Talent Search Director.
- Bilingual (English/[Language]) skills strongly preferred.
