Summary:

The Regional Athletic Trainer provides direct patient care including ongoing assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, conditioning, prevention, and education to student athletes. Focus on injury prevention, emergency care, and rehabilitation to help athletes perform at their best while minimizing risks.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provides direct patient care including ongoing assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, conditioning, prevention, and education.
  2. Educates students, coaches, and parents on proper techniques, nutrition, and health habits to minimize injury risks; conducts physicals and monitor overall health; implements and oversees injury prevention programs for student athletes. Communicates with physicians, coaches and health professionals regarding patient care and coordination of services and other needs as indicated. Provides updates to coaches and parents about the status of injuries and recovery.
  3. Provides written documentation according to departmental standards.
  4. Works with and provides guidance to students and unlicensed personnel. Administers first aid and emergency care as needed, such as CPR or wound care; evaluates injuries and provides immediate care during practices and competitions.
  5. Attends practices, games, and other athletic events to provide on-site medical assistance; ensures the availability of necessary medical supplies and emergency action plans.
  6. Seeks educational opportunities to further professional development.
  7. Fosters enhanced awareness/understanding of athletic training, sports medicine, and clinic/hospital programs to the department, hospital, schools, and other community organizations.
  8. Participates in departmental research and educational programs.
  9. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psych/ social, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age.
  10. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Technical Expertise

  1. Ability to maneuver into a variety of small spaces and assume various positions including crawling, kneeling, and squatting.
  2. Must possess sufficient strength to ensure safety of unstable patients and assist in patient transfers.
  3. Fine motor functions including precise hand/eye coordination as well as gross motor functions which allow for manipulation of tools, instruments, and equipment.
  4. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  5. Strong problem-solving skills.
  6. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with both patients and families.
  7. Experience working with various levels within an organization required.
  8. Experience in healthcare preferred.
  9. Experience working in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software required.

Education and Experience

  1. Education: Master's degree required or a Bachelor's degree and currently licensed as an Athletic Trainer with the state of Ohio's Board of Certification.
  2. Certification: Licensed by the Ohio OT/PT/AT Board required. Certified by the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainer required. Current Healthcare Provider BLS training required.
  3. Years of relevant experience: Athletic training experience in a high school setting preferred.
  4. Years of supervisory experience: None.
