The Technical Sales Engineer at Jered is a key contributor responsible for shaping and delivering successful technical proposals for complex electrohydraulic and electromechanical deck machinery systems. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals, systems integration, and customer requirements analysis.
Working closely with customers, the sales engineer translates technical and operational needs into concept-level system designs and ensures alignment with cost, schedule, and performance objectives. This position plays a critical role in helping the organization win business by developing clear, compliant, and cost-effective proposal concepts that reflect both customer goals and Jered’s technical capabilities.
The ideal candidate has strong project leadership skills, proposal development experience, and the ability to collaborate across functions and with external stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work directly with customers to understand, interpret, and translate technical requirements into conceptual system designs.
- Develop and review cost effective technical proposals that fully address customer requirements and evaluation criteria.
- Provide guidance and inputs for material sourcing and procurement strategies.
- Interface with Proposals, Estimating, Procurement, Sales, Manufacturing, Quality and Engineering teams to ensure cohesive proposal development
- Communicate directly with new and existing subcontractors and suppliers to gather bid requirements and evaluate submissions for technical compliance.
- Conduct and Lead technical meetings with customers and internal stakeholders.
- Educate customers on Jered’s capabilities and technologies to help shape future solicitations and build long-term relationships.
- Consult/Oversee the development of technical documentation that govern the system design, configuration, and operation.
- Complete/review technical proposals and respective documents for compliance to bid requirements.
- Modify/review technical proposals in response to amendments, customer clarifications, or other direction.
- Develop an effective teaming relationship with the shipyard and navy personnel
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical systems or proposal engineering
- Demonstrated ability to prepare complete and compliant technical proposal submissions that capture all customer requirements and evaluation criteria
- Prior experience in the shipbuilding industry
- General understanding of electrical and controls requirements as they relate to mechanical system integration
- Proficient in 2D and 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD
- Strong communication skills – written and verbal
- Highly organized with effective time management skills
- Experience leading or contributing to cross-functional engineering teams
