FORESTRY & RIGHT-OF-WAY SPECIALIST

Location: The Forestry & R/W Services Business Support team is based out of Atlanta, GA at the GPC Corporate Headquarters. 

The FROW team is a statewide organization, and this position has support obligations for the team.  Because of the statewide support aspects of this position, the reporting location is flexible. 

The position will be expected to maintain a presence at various company locations or offices per current company policy, as well as frequent trips to our corporate office in Atlanta.

JOB SUMMARY

This job provides direct support to the Forestry and Right-of-Way (FROW) organization.  The position will serve as one of the liaisons for Work Management and Decision Support tools used within the FROW organization.  This position will be responsible for the efficient function, support, and appropriate data activities related to the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and associated applications, databases and sources used by Georgia Power’s vegetation management and right-of-way services teams.  

The position serves as the pivot for the execution and reconciliation of all compliance reporting activities.  The position assists with the creation and maintenance of operational and financial data analytics used by the department. The position will assist in supporting the Source to Pay (S2P) processes with vendor invoicing through efficient and proper data delivery and integrations and limited user support. 

The position will focus on data manipulation, GIS and productivity solutions alongside building and maintaining successful partnerships with vendors, internal and external stakeholders to ensure the FROW mission is achieved in a cost-effective, compliant and customer-focused manner.

The position has a storm / emergency restoration role within the Business Support team. Typically, the candidate will provide logistical and data management support related to FROW operations during a restoration event. The position will report to the GPC Storm Center or other designated location during the event.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform Geographic Information Systems (GIS) duties, including but not limited to production mapping support, data creation/manipulation, analysis and reporting, model building and scripting, integration with tools with in the ESRI infrastructure, and other associated functions.
  • Act as a member of the team supporting the department’s vegetation management and right-of-way software solutions for internal and vendor partners, including troubleshooting, training, system configurations, coordinating with software support and vendors, user and group maintenance, and data interfaces between various other systems, both internal and external to the department.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to the department as it relates to data cleanup activities to accurately both depict and leverage spatial and non-spatial data sources related to the FROW team’s operations.
  • Be able to write appropriate Microsoft SQL and Oracle SQL queries, views and stored procedures in partnership with database administrators and other stakeholders to support FROW team operations.
  • Act as a backup Business Unit Administrator for GPC FROW in CAMP application, providing training and support on the application for internal and external partners when other team resources are unavailable.
  • Act as a member of the team performing quality control audits for department processes and procedures as well as vendor contract details, ensuring all appropriate applications are providing correct and timely data.
  • Assist teammates in departmental compliance, auditing and certifications for staff members as needed.
  • Assist teammates in the development of annual work plans for execution by department as needed.
  • Assist in the administration and development of “citizen-developed” FROW technology solutions including SharePoint, Microsoft Power Platform, MOBI, and other productivity solutions as needed.
  • Assist teammates in the revenue/bill back to MEAG for FROW work performed by GPC and ensures proper accounting for delivery of Net Income as needed.
  • Support creation of operational and financial analyses, reporting, tracking and recommendations to FROW leadership.
  • Represent organization on system-wide and operating company initiatives, audits and committees as needed.
  • Participate in SERP efforts in the Georgia Power Storm Center, including logistical support for mobilizing and monitoring contract tree crews during storm restoration.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

The following education and experience are preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (MS, MBA) from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software solutions as an analyst or similar role.
  • Experience supporting end users and client-facing work management technology applications with mobile components.
  • Experience in data query, manipulation, reporting and visualization functions and technologies including Microsoft and Oracle related SQL, Microsoft Power Platform, Microsoft Excel and Power BI.
  • Experience with analyzing and reporting on operational metrics, KPIs and other statistical elements.
  • Experience with FME, SSMS, SSRS, SSIS is a plus.
  • Experience with Python, PowerShell, vbScript/VBA, JavaScript and similar scripting tools is a plus.
  • Utility vegetation management experience is a plus.
  • Experience with FERC compliance reporting and/or internal auditing is a plus.
  • Knowledge of GPC’s FROW organization and operations is a plus

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong customer service and support skills with a variety of end users supporting technology adoption and use (from novice through expert level);
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft Power Platform (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Power BI, Power Apps and related applications);
  • Knowledge of spatial and database technologies, including GIS, remote sensing and spatial data analysis ESRI ArcGIS platform.
  • Knowledge of Southern Company internal GIS tools utilized in the Distribution and Transmission networks (DistView, TransView, LIMS, etc.) is a plus.
  • Ability to deliver high quality analytical results in a timely and organized manner.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects with aggressive schedules and competing deadlines
