Join the vibrant, cross-functional team at Mizkan America Research & Development as an R&D Sr. Packaging Engineer! We’re looking for a talented individual to lead packaging initiatives within our Flavor Enhancers and Meal Solutions portfolio for our iconic brands like Mizkan, Nakano, Bertolli, Ragu, Holland House, and Angostura.

SUMMARY: The Senior Packaging Engineer is a dynamic role within a collaborative team who will have the ability to design packaging for development, innovation, renovation, and cost saving initiatives specifically working on primary, secondary materials and design formats. This person will have the opportunity to work with all cross functional teams / areas to improve margins, product quality performance and adherence to packaging specifications. This role requires strong Computer Literacy skills, excellent Power Point presentation skills; proficiency in doing project timelines in project management software, and proficient with palletizing software.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Key contributor for packaging design development, testing and commercialization for Meals solutions (SAUCES) and Flavor Enhancers (VINEGARS, CONDIMENTS AND SYRUPS) products.
  • Leads design development and commercialization activities on assigned Packaging projects.
  • Responsible for building robust project and test plans aligned with commercial timelines.
  • Responsible for leading and presenting technical design review with cross functional partners seek alignment on next steps and risk mitigation.
  • Contributes / enhances Packaging design attributes with consumer & customer centricity in mind.
  • Communicates results, challenges, recommendations and maintains proper project documentation.
  • Responsible for leading coordinating and successfully executing plant trials at Mizkan factories or co-manufacturers.
  • Responsible for creating, issuing, and owning accurate packaging specifications and provide feedback for spec system improvement.
  • Advises team on packaging options and processes as required & contributes to packaging process improvements.
  • Manages multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to commercial timelines and prioritizing as needed.
  • Contributes to Packaging department vision, building future capabilities, process, and procedures.
  • Coordinates, leads, organizes and presents project updates, samples showings etc. to leadership.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Packaging Engineering, Polymer Science or related field with minimum 5 years of experience and track record of successful packaging project delivery.
  • Knowledge and understanding of packaging Equipment, materials (Glass, PET and corrugate), Packaging Testing procedures protocols knowledge must have.
  • TOPS or CAPS palletizing software experience required. CAD experience is a plus.
  • Certifications CPP (certified packaging professional) and PMP (Project Management Professional) are a plus.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of project management & timeline creation.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, critical thinking, planning skills to identify creative solutions to problems.
  • Strong communication skills, organizational, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong Computer Literacy skills. Excellent MS Office skills.
  • Demonstrated strong and excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Willingness to travel approximately up to 40% of the time.
  • Willingness and flexibility to adapt to changing business needs and deadlines.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations for food safety, quality, and sustainability
  • Ability to exhibit a professional businesslike appearance and demeanor

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $98,900 to $138,300.

Compensation is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills and experience. Short-Term Incentive and other forms of compensation may also be provided as part of a total compensation package.

A full range of medical, dental, vision, 401K plus up-to-four percent (4%) match, profit sharing, wellness program, paid parental leave, long-term-care insurance, critical accident insurance, short- and long-term disability and education assistance are also available.
