System Engineer - Plant Barry
JOB SUMMARY
This engineer will be responsible for engineering related activities at a power generating plant. This position is responsible for providing plant technical support and developing long term plans and budgets to maintain and improve equipment performance.
Power Generation Engineers manage capital and O&M projects. They also follow prescribed procedures and, under direct supervision, conduct analyses to develop design options or recommendations for structures, systems and components. This position is accountable for providing technical direction and troubleshooting for Plant electrical and mechanical systems. The incumbent will be responsible for providing ongoing inspection and evaluation of equipment and for determining the appropriate direction on design and performance improvements, upgrades, and other modifications. This individual will be a troubleshooting resource for operations and maintenance.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide outage/project management, project budget management, long term maintenance strategies and technical support to the plant
- Develop 5- & 10-year capital budgets and justification for associated capital projects
- Monitor plant performance and make recommendations to improve heat rate and reliability.
- Utilize computer business tools to develop and justify budgets, write work orders, order material, develop project schedules, and monitor equipment.
- Initiate, troubleshoot and review root cause analyses for system equipment failures
- Work with Southern Company Services, OEM's and system owners at other plants to stay current of any upgrades or concerns that affect the plant and communicate these needs to plant management, corporate management, and peer groups.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- B.S. in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in an Industrial Facility with an engineering project or design focus involving the maintenance of the following types of equipment: pumps/ motors, air/motor operated valves, fans, condensers, boilers, turbines, and industrial electrical switchgear, circuit breakers and transformers.
- Demonstrated project management experience required
- Strong technical expertise and problem-solving abilities required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong organizational, administrative, time management, project management, facilitation and analytical skills are required
- Knowledge and experience with personal computers and the ability to learn numerous software applications quickly
- Self-motivation and demonstrated initiative is crucial for this position
- Ability to interface with vendors and contractors while representing the best interests of Southern Company
- Ability to network and utilize subject matter experts at both the corporate level and regional level to support our plant systems
- Display interpersonal skills that demonstrate the ability to handle conflict and work effectively within a diverse team
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and requirements
- Flexible to work across primary position boundaries by willingly accepting multiple roles as required to support plant needs
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
- Must be available to work nights, weekends and/or holidays as needed.
- May require some extended work hours.
- Must be able to be on-call for the plant for specified rotation frequencies, each occurrence being a week in length
- Some relocation assistance may be available if the selected candidate(s) currently resides outside the area
- Minimal Travel required – 15%
