SUMMARY:
Directs the responsibilities and functions of all units in Information Technology Services, including Enterprise and Application Services, Security, Student Technology Services, Technology Assistance Center, Telecommunications Technology Services, and other related support services.IT Services also includes University wide services for IT infrastructure systems and applications for instructional systems and other academic and support areas in Big Rapids and at off-campus sites.

ESSENTIAL

  • Manages and provides direction of all University computing, information, and communications functions.
  • Communicates with all University stakeholders on the functions, plans, and measurable outcomes associated with ITS areas of responsibility.
  • Providing proactive leadership on university wide information and technology issues across all parts of the University.
  • Develops plans for long range information and technology including strategies, budgets, schedules and emerging technologies.
  • Develops and maintains annual ITS operations budgets and oversee the implementation of IT projects including completion within budget.
  • Provides leadership and supervision of all ITS staff including position responsibilities, position planning, recruitment, retention, compensation, training/development, and evaluation. These responsibilities include monitoring diversity in the recruitment process.
  • Implements and monitors compliance with statements of policies, procedures and regulations to assure proper documentation and communications of necessary controls and security of University information and systems.
  • Design, implementation, and maintenance of procedures and practices for security of University systems and information, including compliance for HIPAA, FERPA, PCI, ADA section 504, etc.
  • Procedures for effective project management for information technology projects.
  • Provide collaborative leadership across all IT units and between IT and user departments across the University.
  • Oversees documentation of procedures for different types of systems.

 

Marginal

  • Serve as a member of appropriate University committees including leading some of them.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in information technology systems, or related field. Demonstrated technical knowledge of current and emerging technologies particularly relevant to large-scale systems and operations.

 

  • Minimum: Seven years of work experience in the information technology field with increasing levels of management responsibility, with some of this required experience at the director level or above.

 

ADDITIONAL EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES TO BE CONSIDERED:

  • IT management experience in a complex multi-site university setting.
  • Master’s degree in Business or Technology.
  • A minimum of ten years of relevant IT work.

  • Reports directly to the Vice President of Administration and Finance.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with University policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsible for interactions with faculty and staff, vendors, and internal and external auditors on information technology issues.
  • Supervises Information Technology Services staff and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of information technology.
  • Communicate effectively with constituents and stakeholders at all levels both verbally and in writing.
  • Create and carry out strategic planning for information technology from a University wide perspective.
  • Identify and implement leading-edge technology to enhance University processes and services.
  • Negotiate contracts with applicable vendors.
  • Work independently.
  • Effectively manage both operating and project budgets.
