  • Provide a pleasant, safe, and clean environment suitable for children and staff
  • Accountable to Day Care Manager and Assistant Day Care Manager
  • Work with the children and provide a pleasant experience
  • Communicate any problems that may arise to the Manager prior to speaking with parents
  • Comply with all State Licensing Regulations including required training and education
  • Clerical duties at the reservation desk as needed
  • Supervise assistants, trainees, volunteers and temporary staff personnel
  • Supervised by Head Teacher or Manager until individual has successfully completed a reasonable probationary employment period
  • Eat lunch with the children; feed young children according to parent schedule
  • Diaper children, assist in toilet training
  • Plan daily activities in advance; work with Head Teacher on curriculum development


  • Ability to handle a fast paced environment
  • Ability to speak to the children at their eye level
  • Ability to follow all procedures and guidelines as outlined in the staff manual and employee handbook
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Knowledgeable in administering basic first aid/CPR

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (medium lifting)
  • Ability to handle climate changes
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, lift, tumble, jump, skip, hop and dance for long periods of time


  • A teacher associate is at least twenty (20) years of age, is a high school graduate or has completed a GED, and meets one (1) of the following qualifications:
  • At least a Vermont Early Childhood Career Ladder Level Three (3) Certificate; or
  • At least an associate degree from an accredited college with a major or concentration in Early Childhood, Child or Human Development, Elementary Education, or Child and Family Services and at least twelve (12) months experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) or younger; or
  • At least a Certificate of Completion from the Registered Child Care Apprenticeship Program; or
  • At least a Child Care Certificate from the Community College of Vermont and at least twelve (12) months experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) or younger; or
  • At least successful completion of twenty-one (21) college credits with an early childhood or school age focus and at least twelve (12) months experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) or younger
