Job Description:


Harris is seeking a talented functional engineering management professional to join our Electronic Systems market segment at our Harris Technology Center in Palm Bay, FL. 


Primary responsibilities of the Engineering Manager include the functional management of the multi-disciplinary engineering department for Harris’ C4I business unit in Palm Bay, FL. This position is focused on leading a team of approximately 140 Systems Engineers, Systems Integration and Test Engineers, Project Engineers, and Network Engineers in support of pursuits, proposals, IRAD projects, and programs.  The Engineering Manager will also provide coaching and leadership development for a direct staff of Group Leaders as well as for the entire department.  Other responsibilities include:

  • Meet functional requirements of staffing, training, talent development, engagement, retention, and overall management of the systems engineering organization. 
  • Provide staffing for programs, pursuits, and internal efforts (IR&D, Special Projects, etc.) within ES for the C4I business unit.
  • Review and approve functional cost proposals and monitor functional execution to facilitate successful programs.
  • Meet functional organization AOP budgets.
  • Perform risk assessments on programs within the C4I business unit and throughout the ES segment as needed.
  • Support pursuits and proposals in the C4I business, including review/approval of technical proposals and Basis of Estimates (BOEs) as needed. 
  • Maintain and review discipline specific standards as it relates to policies, procedures, tools, training, metrics and best practices
  • Drive discipline productivity and quality measurements to identify defect and rework improvements in processes, practices, tools and staffing


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field with a minimum of 10 years of related experience
  • Experience leading/managing technical inter-disciplinary project teams and programs supervisor or management experience
  • Prior experience managing or assisting with program staffing initiatives
  • Must be able to obtain a government security clearance

 Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Advanced degree is a plus
  • Experience managing programs, pursuits, and proposals within a C4I business unit
  • Active secret or top secret governement security clearance 
  • Manager or supervisor experience
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver and sustain measurable results
  • Ability to coach, mentor and build relationships with staff and internal/external organizations
  • Ability to clearly and succinctly convey information and ideas, including strong executive communication and presentation skills
  • Experience in the application of system engineering standards and experience in the application of systems engineering within a development organization
