The Financial Advisor is primarily responsible for providing excellent customer service by guiding clients toward their short and long-term financial goals; this is accomplished through holistic financial planning and financial advice. In addition, the Financial Advisor is responsible for prospecting new clients in effort to add to assets under management either through referral and/or outside business opportunities. 


  1. Provides ethical and objective, financial advice to clients through comprehensive financial planning. Analyzes client situation and develops financial planning strategies to maximize investment performance related to the client’s income, insurance needs, financial objectives, tax status, risk tolerance, etc. Understands tax implications of securities transactions; researches and resolves problems with securities transactions. Provides advice to clients on securities purchases by informing them of current market trends and recommending appropriate investment strategies.
    Prepares customer presentations, utilizing databases and worksheets; works closely with Investment/Sales Officers to gain understanding of products and method of sales approach for targeted customers to ensure presentations materials are appropriate.
  2. Ensures that all required customer documentation is complete and transactions are processed correctly and in a timely manner in accordance with regulatory standards and firm policies; resolves customer account and transaction issues; serves as contact person with quality service area in order to provide information and resolve issues.
    Maintains and develops client relationships; identifies and develops list of prospects; develops referral sources from within the bank and current customer list; conducts initial and ongoing client profile process with each to determine investment needs and objectives; markets investment securities as defined by the firm's eligible list to all three groups in a manner to meet or exceed defined sales productivity goals. Maintains an up-to-date familiarity with the current securities portfolio in order to ensure optimum marketing potential. Maintains consistent, documented communication and follow-up with existing and prospective clients.
  3. Utilizes applicable online computer systems, which contain stock and/or bond market price information; relates if market (bond or equity) is up or down; understands when Treasury auctions will take place and when they will settle; determines where auction rates may come; executes auction trades; quotes auction results. Ensures knowledge is current of mutual fund and money market customer base.
  4. Maximizes internal relationship opportunities by attending/conducting meetings within other areas of the bank to educate employees on referral skills and customer benefits.
  5. Conducts business within the guidelines established by regulatory agencies and internal policies.


  • Working knowledge of primary investment markets, products, and services and the ability to determine specific customer needs, implement strategies, and offer products to meet those needs
  • Working knowledge of bank commercial products and services
  • Basic knowledge of income tax and estate tax matters
  • Excellent PC skills including word processing and spreadsheet applications
  • Excellent customer relations and sales skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree and 1-2 years’ experience in securities sales or 7-8 years’ equivalent work experience; FINRA Series 7 licensing, FINRA series 63 and/or 65 license, and Life/Health insurance license required.
