Position Objective:


As a direct report to the Director of Surgery, the Manager, Surgical Innovation and Simulation will oversee all planning, operations and administration of the James and Sylvia Earl Simulation to Advance Innovation and Learning (SAIL) center. The manager collaborates with all AAHS partners for simulation activities, drives curriculum in collaboration with clinical leadership and executes strategies for innovation and training. This position provides oversight of all simulation center employees including the simulation coordinator and simulation technician.

  1. Lead the execution of surgical innovation and simulation projects as assigned by the Director of Surgery and Chairman of Surgery.

  2. Design and implement educational programs for faculty development and continuing education through simulation in partnership with clinical and operational leaders.

  3. Serve as a representative of SAIL and the Department of Surgery to external parties by providing services such as physician recruitment support, tours, and community events.

  4. Engage the current medical staff within the Division of Surgery and other medical staff, Patient Care Services, Clinical Education and other departments, as it pertains to programmatic opportunities and growth for innovation and advanced training at AAHS.

  5. Participate in accreditation activities related to pursuit of American College of Surgeons AEI accreditation.

  6. Provide direct oversight and management of all Simulation Center employees.

  7. Provide subject matter expertise input to research and industry proposals as requested by the Director of Surgery, Director of Surgery Research, and Chairman of Surgery, and partner to facilitate revenue producing relationships with industry.

  8. Lead the creation and approval process for the Simulation Center operating budgets and capital budget.

  9. Identify and implement operational efficiencies, including capacity and through-put management, resource allocation and budget related to the operations of the Simulation Center.

  10. Provide AV/technical support for surgery education events, CME events, and video conferencing events.


Educational/Experience Requirements:



  • BS or MS preferred.

  • 5+ years of related experience in clinical simulation management with a demonstrated record of operational success

  • Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent computer skills including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel proficiency

  • Ability to work effectively as a team member in a dynamic environment
