The MD of State Government Affairs will report to the Chief Operating Officer and will manage a 13-person State Affairs team.

This position is based in New York, NY.

Help guide organizational policy, strategy, and political decision-making as a senior leader in a fast growing organization.

Track and analyze state legislative and regulatory action in the context of the current political climate to identify areas of concern or opportunity and develop, recommend, and implement strategies to further Everytown’s policy agenda.

Forge relationships with decision makers and other external stakeholders to advance Everytown’s advocacy agenda, including building trusted relationships with state legislators, coalition partners and political committees.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • 15 or more years of experience working on or directing issue advocacy legislative campaigns
  • Experience working for or closely with state legislators and state executive agencies
  • Experience and knowledge of gun violence prevention (GVP) a plus, but must be capable of developing deep policy expertise on GVP issues in order to communicate nuanced public policy to diverse audiences including elected officials, law enforcement, and other key stakeholders.

  • Highly developed strategic problem solving and execution skills; ability to achieve excellence and meet goals within a complex and sophisticated landscape
  • Demonstrated experience managing partnerships and relationships at the state and local level
