Lions VisionGift (LVG) is a nonprofit eye bank that obtains, medically evaluates and distributes eye tissue donated by caring individuals for use in cornea transplantation, research, and education. Since 1975, our organization has helped over 30,000 individuals receive sight-restoring transplants.

Lions VisionGift currently has an opening for a Tissue Distribution Specialist position in our Boston location. This position is responsible for coordinating the complex logistics behind bringing sight-restoring corneal transplants to patients in need. This position is the primary contact for surgeons, schedulers, and Portland, OR Tissue Distribution Specialists in regard to east coast distribution events.
This is a great opportunity for individuals who support donation, possess strong problem-solving skills, and have an excellent attention to detail. Preference will be given to applicants with a background in medical or science fields. Prior experience in eye banking, tissue banking, or organ procurement organizations is ideal, but not required. This is a fast-paced role where mastery and ownership of important processes is gained quickly.
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
  • Distributes VGE tissue, both transplant and non-transplant, per LVG policies and procedures
  • Packages tissue for shipment
  • Delivers tissue to local surgical facilities
  • Imports tissue, as needed
  • Process incoming tissue and processing requests, as needed
  • Facilitate surgeon/resident/fellow training by organizing wet labs and distributing training tissue
  • Outreach and marketing to VGE surgeons in coordination with the VP of Surgical Services.
  • VGE tissue inventory tracking and follow-up
  • Ensures database is current with regard to proper contact information of all distribution outlets
  • Document individual end user needs to maximize our service
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and interact well with others
  • Evaluates tissue and determines surgical suitability as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by management

A successful candidate will have:

  • A high school diploma;
  • A Bachelors' degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred;
  • A medical background is preferred;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office software.
