The Retirement Benefits Analyst will be responsible for the daily administration of the retirement plans, maintaining data integrity and providing ongoing support and education to meet the needs of our employees. This role will also have responsibility for administering retirement plans, supporting HR management on all plan interpretation matters ensuring the retirement programs remain competitive, innovative, compliant and cost effective as well as providing ongoing support and education to meet the needs of NRG's employees.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate participant activity with respect to the administration of the 401(k) plan and defined benefit pension plans including reconciling and funding the biweekly payroll 401(k) contributions and loans and the defined benefit contributions.
  • Respond to retirement inquiries and issues, ensuring quick and compliant resolution.
  • Gather, analyze and report data as it pertains to enrollment, ad hoc or standard internal audits, and compliance checks.
  • Maintain and produce monthly reports to assist Accounting with appropriate establishment of defined contribution benefit accruals, discretionary contributions and true-up payments.
  • Work with Senior Manager, Retirement to recommend operational and process improvements based on identified needs.
  • Assist in implemented internal controls to ensure Retirement Team is effective, efficient, and service is of the highest quality.
  • Assist with plan audit preparations and support
  • Analyze and resolve data discrepancies on retirement issues, including payroll related issues, in a timely fashion.
  • Work closely with vendors and HR field to provide educational opportunities on retirement planning.
  • Maintain awareness of current trends in benefits.
  • Support benefit projects and initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.

Experience:

  • High School diploma
  • 3 to 5 years of equivalent work experience in human resource working in benefits or in payroll working 
  • Excellent technical, analytical, and critical thinking skills required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with an emphasis on Excel required
  • General understanding of HR practices, laws and regulations
  • Strong customer service and verbal and written skills
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and adapt to changing priorities
  • Must manage time and priorities effectively by completing tasks in a timely manner
  • Exhibition of high ethical standards consistent with NRG’s Power Values

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, in a related discipline.
  • 401K funding

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Broad understanding of human resources policies and processes 
  • Benefits-related certifications are a plus (ASPPA, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, CEBS, PHR, SPHR)
  • Experience with SuccessFactors, SAP payroll experience is highly desirable

      Working Conditions:

  • Ability to adapt work schedule to business demand
  • Limited travel (less than 10%)
