Partnering with physicians and residents, you’ll play a crucial role in streamlining patient flow, enhancing the patient experience, and optimizing the efficiency of the emergency department. This is a unique opportunity to combine your medical knowledge with your passion for providing exceptional patient care.
Responsibilities:

  • Accompany physicians during patient examinations, meticulously recording patient history, physical exam findings, and physician-directed details of the visit into the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Research and document patient medical history, including nurse’s notes, EMS reports, and prior hospital records.
  • E-sign the EMR after physician review and signature, ensuring accurate and complete documentation.
  • Proactively monitor patient status, informing physicians of test results, critical values, and any delays in care.
  • Act as a patient advocate, addressing patient needs and concerns, and ensuring their comfort throughout their visit.
  • Facilitate communication between physicians and other medical staff, relaying non-medical messages and requests.
  • Assist with patient discharge processes, preparing discharge instructions and specialist referrals as directed by the physician.

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Three years of overall experience, preferably as a medical scribe in an emergency department, EMT/Paramedic, or within a healthcare educational program.
  • Strong medical terminology knowledge and understanding of medical thought processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including grammar and spelling proficiency.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients, families, and medical staff.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of electronic medical record systems, preferably EPIC.
