Description
Focuses on identification and retention of students at risk of leaving the institution. Responsibilities include monitoring Early Alerts and other institutional early warning signs and meeting with students identified as "at-risk". 

Examples of Duties
Essential and other responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions:

Provide proactive and individualized success coaching to a caseload facilitated by early alert/advising system powered by predictive analytics.
Help embed effective intrusive advising processes to reach at-risk students who could benefit most from additional support.
Identify students who are at risk of leaving the college prematurely (i.e. prior to completion of stated goals), and provide proactive outreach by connecting students to intentional interventions and student support activities.
Provide a seminal role in the ongoing development and maintenance of the Academic Early Alert program, technologies and retention efforts.
Provide timely feedback to identified students about their academic status.
In collaboration with Faculty and Student Services staff, assess primary and secondary challenges of identified at-risk students.
Identify institutional and community-based resources available for students and refer as appropriate.  Referrals may include, but are not limited to, Academic Support, Disabilities Services, Career Counseling, and/or community resources.
Maintain an active case-load and keep appropriate documentation of interventions and outcomes for identified at-risk students.
In collaboration with faculty and Student Services staff, develop an Academic Improvement Plan (AIP) for each identified at-risk student.
Interface with instructional program faculty and staff regularly to effectively communicate support services available to students and become better connected to resources and program requirements and expectations.
Provide targeted academic advising, as appropriate, for identified students.
Maintain familiarity with both college transfer and technical program requirements.
Evaluate transcripts and degree audits to facilitate advising and maintain up-to-date reference documents such as catalogs and handbooks.
Deliver, or assist in the delivery of, Student Success courses; present student workshops.
Participate in regular departmental consultations, meetings, and other professional development activities.
Model legal and ethical practices and guidelines as related to academic advising and/or counseling; adhere to FERPA guidelines, especially in regard to ethical standards, record keeping, and confidentiality.
Participate in professional development activities and required employee training.
 
Marginal Functions:

Serve on institutional and community committees as assigned.
Assist with admissions, placement testing, advising, registration and orientation.
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Working Conditions
Knowledge of:

Community College philosophy.

The mission, goals and objectives of CCC&TI.

Principles and techniques of Success Coaching. 

College admissions and retention techniques and procedures.

Principles and procedures of record keeping.

Comprehensive Articulation Agreement for public and private institutions. 

Basic letter writing and basic report preparation.

Safe work practices and procedures.

Operational characteristics of equipment and tools used in the area of work assigned.

English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment.

Current trends, research and development in the area of assignment.

Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regula­tions.

Ability to:

Plan, organize, and coordinate workflows.

Maintain and update computer records, files and other documents.

Compile information and prepare computer-generated reports.

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Work cooperatively and collaboratively with other departments.

Provide a friendly and welcoming environment.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Environmental Conditions:

The employee should have the ability to effectively handle a work environment and conditions which involve an office workspace, working closely with others, and periodically working irregular hours.

The employee must maintain the office environments by maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment.

Physical Conditions:

The employee is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, reading and writing, operating assigned equipment, communicating with others, and handling varied tasks simultaneously.

Additionally, the employee must maintain mental capacity, which permits making sound decisions and using good judgment, demonstrating intellectual capabilities, and evaluating the effectiveness of programs and personnel.

Scheduling Conditions:

This is a full-time, 12-month position, which requires the employee to be on campus or at an approved alternate location for at least thirty-six hours per week, Monday through Thursday, 8:00am-5:00pm, and Friday, 8:00am-12:00pm, including one evening per week till 7:00 PM. This position generally works daytime hours, but has the potential for occasional evening or weekend hours. 

Traveling Conditions:

Local travel between the Caldwell campus, Watauga campus, or any off-campus sites may be needed. Out of state travel is limited, but may be required for training and conferences.  

Experience and Training
Experience:

Two years of increasingly responsible experience in an academic setting required. Previous experience with academic advising and/or student retention at the community college level is preferred.

Training:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in education, counseling, student development or related field is required.
