Job Description:

VP, Portfolio Optimization

The Role

As an integral part of the Quantitative Research and Investing (QRI) group, the Mosaic team is responsible for an innovative portfolio optimization system used for both quant research and managing funds at scale.

In your role as a VP, Portfolio Optimization on the Mosaic team, you will partner with research and technology teams on the design and delivery of software used by quantitative researchers and production tools to optimize and analyze portfolios. You will work closely with research teams to understand requirements and implement new software features, as well as gain insight into how they build their optimization, which will allow you to lead engagements with researchers and partner with technology teams on the implementation of significant parts of the platform.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring:

  • A Master's degree or higher in computer science, engineering, or mathematics, with coursework in optimization.
  • 5+ years in portfolio optimization-focused roles, involving both software development and mathematics.
  • Demonstrable track record delivering mathematical and software solutions to common portfolio optimization challenges, including adjusting the stability of a covariance matrix using linear algebra and implementing heuristics for more efficient integer solutions.
  • Track record of delivering optimization solutions for clients in financial services with direct experience working with clients, synthesizing their high-level needs with implementation details in code.
  • Expert-level development skills in Python.
  • A proven record of architecting sophisticated systems to work efficiently and reliably in critical applications. Ability to recognize business risk and surface it to key decision-makers.
  • A leader who is focused on promoting a team culture of accountability and continuous improvement and removing drag forces to enable team success.

The Value You Deliver:

  • Apply your domain expertise to maintain the relationship between Mosaic and different quant research and product teams. Guide partners to performant solutions using existing Mosaic features, and find opportunities for enhancements to the product. You will provide important insights to your partners on the engineering team and senior leadership.
  • Independently deliver sophisticated mathematical solutions to guide implementation of features which require domain expertise in optimization.
  • Guide the prioritization of new features and enhancements, using your understanding of client needs and your technical knowledge of the product's implementation.
  • Support engineering efforts across the team by articulating requirements and mentoring members of the partner technology team as they develop domain expertise.
  • Help the team resolve service requests from partners, identifying which challenges require code changes and helping researchers work through issues on their side.
