Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a vital part of the Missile Defense System. It acts as a central operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and tactical levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, track battle progress, and actively manage designated networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals.
C2BMC provides a layered missile defense capability that offers an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It functions as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations both worldwide and locally, enhancing overall performance. Additionally, C2BMC is essential in all ground and flight tests, which verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of the missile defense system.
This position is for a Principal Software Engineer on the C2BMC Global GBM team. The candidate will primarily develop software using Java, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, work independently or with a small team, and remain adaptable in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment.
Essential Functions:
• Provide in-depth analysis and technical support for an extensive, distributed system written in Java
• Handle complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, integration, and user support for a substantial codebase
• Follow specifications to develop or modify functionality within the code
• Assist with design, benchmarking, debugging, and documentation
• Collaborate with other system support groups to resolve issues, set standards, and improve overall system efficiency
• Design, code, test, and implement tools for automation
• Will work effectively in a fast-paced, team environment
• Knowledge of software practices and coding standards
• Will have strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to review performance issues, identify root causes, and recommend and develop solutions
• Will work as part of an Agile team
• Will have knowledge of server-side development and message passing
• Will develop enterprise applications
Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 3 years of related experience, or 1 years of related experience with a PhD. Or 9 years of related experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.
• Applicants must hold a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Top Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start, with eligibility for SCI
• Ability and willingness to travel 10% to support business needs.
• Must have Java and Java Spring experience
• Experience with containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes
• Use of common software development and management tools such as:
• Git
• Nexus
• JIRA
• Confluence
• Maven or Gradle
• Eclipse
• Understanding standard system engineering design artifacts such as Use Cases and UML diagrams
Preferred Qualifications:
• A current and active DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA, etc.) is highly desired
• Command and control system application development
• Previous experience with message translation software
• Automated testing and pipeline development experience
• Experience developing software for Unix/Linux and Windows platforms
• Experience with software integration testing, including developing automated test scripts
• Experience with Risk Management Framework, STIG, and Fortify mitigation
• Prior experience designing and developing microservices and deploying containers
• Experience setting up container environments

Primary Level Salary Range: $100,300.00 - $150,500.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
