What You Will Do<\/b>
The Medical Physics Assistant works under the direct supervision of the Manager and Lead Medical Physicist and works closely with staff Medical Physicists. This position will be responsible for assisting in performing clinical medical physics, helping in supporting the dosimetry staff, as well as helping in performing administrative tasks as directed to meet the goals of Radiation Oncology where and when needed within the Sharp HealthCare system. This position may require travel to other Sharp HealthCare facilities.

Provides important consultant function regarding patient external beam and brachytherapy treatment planning proposing alternates, and discusses probable procedure with physicians.

Provides in-vivo monitoring of patient dosimetry.
Performs patient treatment planning as needed by the department.<\/li>
Responsible for ensuring that the equipment requirements of the radiation oncology department is maintained at the highest level and updated as required.
Provides follow up testing after repair when necessary to ensure machines return to manufacturer's specifications.
Collaborate with field service engineers to minimize machine down time.<\/li>
Performs Quality Control Measurements, compares results to baseline values and initiates appropriate corrective action (if necessary)
Exercises responsibility for accurate specifications of dose delivered by each of the x-ray and radioactive sources as directed by AAPM and ACR Standards.
Collaborates with the staff and other medical physicists in carrying on a continuous program of quality assessment and improvement for all treatment units and ancillary equipment.
Reviews patient charts to ensure treatment delivered is consistent with physician orders.<\/li>
Consults with staff regarding problems relative to radiation safety and radiation protection.
Has responsibility for inspecting and implementing all provisions and revisions of procedures relative to California Environmental Health and Safety Regulations.
Acts as department backup representative for State DOHS inspections and regulatory compliance issues.<\/li><\/ul>
