The State of Connecticut Judicial Branch is seeking a Deputy Director II for the Office of Victim Services. The successful candidate will be accountable for directing administrative support or operational programs critical to the Office of Victim Services. 

Duties include: Directing programs and/or staff as assigned; coordinates, plans and directs operational or administrative activities as assigned; formulates program goals and objectives in accordance with division policies and standards; develops related policies; conducts performance evaluations; maintains contacts with individuals both within and outside of the Branch who might impact on division activities; provides guidance and direction to field offices regarding division and Branch policies and procedures; develops and maintains systems for evaluating program performance and effectiveness; assists in the review, development and implementation of legislation and the unit’s budget; prepares reports and correspondence; may act for the Director during absences; assists with or performs projects as assigned; develops and conducts staff training programs; analyzes operations to determine needs and makes recommendations for improvement; represents the division on a variety of committees; develops forms, manuals and other instructional materials; performs related duties as required. 

Examples of related duties include: assist with directing the investigation, processing, and payment of compensation claims; assist with directing the staff and operations of the units that determine eligibility and provides compensation for victims of crimes; provide assistance and advocacy services for crime victims; provide education and outreach to victims of crime, their families, community victim services organizations, and criminal justice system agencies and offices; provide medical response to patients presenting with sexual assault, and training and education to medical providers performing sexual assault evidence collection. 

The preferred candidate must have considerable knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations; considerable knowledge of and ability to apply management principles and techniques; considerable oral and written communication skills; considerable interpersonal skills; analytical and organizational skills; computer skills; considerable ability to apply relevant agency policies and procedures; considerable problem solving skills; ability to evaluate policy and programs, recommend and coordinate policy development activities. Experience with federal, state, and private grants and funds, and budget planning is preferred. 

Salary Range: $124,980 - $163,670/year – plus State of Connecticut benefits.

New employees begin at the minimum.  The starting salary for existing state employees may be higher than the minimum, in accordance with existing Judicial Branch policy.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

General Experience: Ten years of professional experience exercising administrative or supervisory responsibilities. 

Substitutions Allowed: 1) College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen semester hours equaling one-half year of experience to a maximum of four years for a Bachelor’s degree.  2) A law degree or a master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one additional year of the General Experience. 

Special Requirements: Incumbents may be required to travel in the course of their daily work.
